Breakers Agree to Terms With Former Atlanta Beat Defender Cat Whitehill
NORWOOD, MA (Jan. 9, 2012) – The Boston Breakers have agreed to terms with defender Cat Whitehill, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist with the U.S. Women’s National Team and three-year WPS veteran.
The 29-year-old from Birmingham, Alabama is one of the most capped U.S. Women’s National Team defenders with 134 appearances. She also scored 11 goals with the U.S. and played in the 2003 and 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cups.
"We are continuing to make signings that will strengthen our squad and bring in some new faces for the supporters to see. Cat is a player with not only good playing abilities, but also someone with a vast amount of knowledge and experience," Boston Breakers Associate General Manager Lee Billiard said. "She will be a great leader and role model for our younger players. We are excited to have such a talented and experienced player involved with our organization."
Whitehill began her WPS career in 2009 with the Washington Freedom. She played two seasons in Washington, starting all 42 games she appeared in. She started 17 games last season for the Atlanta Beat. Whitehill has four goal and four assists in WPS in 59 games played. She’s also logged 5,304 minutes, including every minute of all 17 games she played in for Atlanta last season.
