Boston Breakers sign Tameka Butt, adding another Australian star to their lineup

NORWOOD, MA (Jan. 25, 2012) – The Boston Breakers added yet another Australian star to their lineup, signing Brisbane Roar midfielder Tameka Butt.
The 20-year-old has 23 caps for the Australian Women's National Team and has won two premierships and a grand final with the Brisbane Roar in the Westfield W-league, the Australian National Women's Football competition. Butt will again be featuring for Brisbane Roar in this weekend's W-League Grand Final. Brisbane is playing for back-to-back titles.
“We continue to build what we believe will be a strong squad for not only the upcoming season but also for future seasons," Boston Breakers Associate General Manager Lee Billiard said. "We have added a lot of young quality, just like Tameka, to the squad with a good mix of experience to guide them. (Head Coach) Lisa Cole has put a lot of work into building a new look Boston Breakers. I am very excited to see them perform in 2012. I know Tameka will be another fantastic addition both on and off the field as an ambassador for our team.”
In Butt's four years playing for Australia, she's won the AFC Women's Asian Cup in 2010 and also played in the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
"I am so happy that this has now been finalized, and I can't wait to get over to Boston," Butt said. "I've heard such great things about the Boston Breakers, and I am really looking forward to joining up with the squad and getting out on the field and helping Boston be successful this season."
Butt was also a member of the 2007 AFC Women's Under-17 Asian Championship and the 2008 AFC Under-20s Women's Asian Championship. She was also the Captain of the Australian Under-20's National Team from 2007-2009 and was the captain of the Australian team that won the 2008 ASEAN Women's Cup Championship.
